Cosmos Flower Wall Hanging 


How to carve an elegant cosmos flower in soap.

 What you will need
 :Round or rectangular soap either is fine.
Carving knife
Paring knife

Craft Glue
Food coloring and water

This pink soap is a store-bought soap in Japan
 called "Ichigo Milk Flavor"
 Milk and strawberry scented.    
  7cm(2-3/4") in diameter ,  weight: 3oz/80g bar


This white 3 pack soap is a store-bought soap
   in Japan called
  "Shokubutsu Umare no Yasashii Sekken(mild soap)"
   Floral scented.  

  Dimensions :
  7.5 cm (3")  x 5.5 cm ( 2-1/4") x 2.4 cm(1"),
  Weight: 3oz/80g bar

Instruction Video



1. Thinly cut off the top of the soap with a paring knife
   to create a flat surface.


2.Cut out the water drop shape template.
  Trace the outline onto the soap with a toothpick.

  Then Lightly cut the water drop shape with a tip of
  the knife.

3. Then cut the water drop shape out of soap.

4. First, carve the center of the cosmos flower.
   Holding your knife at a right angle,cut the center circle.
   Then cut off the soap around the circle.
5. Trim the edge of the center circle.

6. Carve eight long indents around the center of the flower.
   Then holding your knife upright,cut a petal shape
   in each indent using the tip of the knife.    
7. Cut the soap under the petals horizontally.

8. Remove the unwanted soap.

9. Carve a straight line in the middle of each petal.
   And cut two thin lines to the both sides of the
   carved line in each petal.

   Make the top edge of the soap flat.

10.   Draw the outlines for the stem and leaves with
       a toothpick.

11. Holding your knife at a right angle,deeply cut
     the stem and the leaf.
    Then cut off the unwanted soap horizontally.


12. Repeat the same steps to the left side.

13.Deeply cut the soap between the stem and the left
    leaf as shown.

14.  Insert the tip of the knife under the stem and the leaf,
      cut the soap horizontally.  
      Then pull out the unwanted soap.

15. Make the edge of the soap flat.

16. Draw the outline for the water drop shape.
     Then carve the water drop shaped line.(left picture)

     Draw small marks at at the same intervals around
     the soap.(right picture)

17. Cut a half circle in each part (between two marks),
     and repeat it around the soap to create a scalloped line.
     Then cut off the unwanted soap.

18. Make small holes in the scalloped line and the
     center of the flower.   
           And make a hole in the top of the soap to hang.

19. Thread the ribbon through the hole. Done.

 Optional :
  Decorate your soap with beads and rhinestones using
  craft glue.

 Optional : Color your soap with food coloring (and water.)
